What are your favorite desserts for Christmas? I don't mean for snacking/goody trays - I mean a dessert to have on Christmas Day after your big meal? :)

Without fail, for 35 years, we have been making a huge bowl of English Trifle for Christmas. You can make it a day or two ahead - as it gets better as you add more sherry, keep it in the fridge and serve as people drop by. It's always nice to do it in layers in a beautiful crystal bowl, topping it with whipped cream and toasted almonds.

growing up in Chicago area, it was the cookies that were made and something hot to drink.
Now I serve the cookies and either a cheesecake for some sort or a steaming chocolate soufflé with some real whipped cream.. yums.

Pam, I so wish I could give you my recipe for Candy Cane pie. But this pie comes from a really great pie shop in my hometown. They make such a beautiful and tasty Candy Cane pie and the price is very reasonable. That pie is so good but is very rich. Just a few bites is enough to head you toward a sugar coma! :D
So my recipe goes like this - phone in my order, get in the car, drive to the pie shop drive up window, pay for pie in a nice carryout box, bring home and serve for dessert. :D
So sorry I can't help you out, Pam. :(

Pecan Pie is probably the one thing that appears every year, without fail.

We just have a cookie tray, pecan pie, and lots of coffee and hot chocolate. We've given up on making the big desserts b/c everyone is usually so stuffed from dinner!

I always serve a tray of asst. homemade cookies and of course, a birthday cake for baby Jesus. We let the little ones pick out their favorite cake and prepare that one. They get to decorate it after dinner and before it comes to the table. What fun and a great photo op!

This recipe was my grandmother's aunt's and one my mother remembers from growing up. It's a rich chocolate cake that we have year 'round, and especially at Christmas!
AUNT MABLE’S SCOTCH CAKE
Sift together in a large mixing bowl 2 cups plain flour and 2 cups sugar. Set aside.
Put in saucepan 1 stick butter, ½ cup Crisco, 4 tablespoons cocoa, 1 cup water. Bring to rapid boil. Pour over flour and sugar. Mix well.
Add ½ cup buttermilk, 2 eggs lightly beaten, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and
1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix well.
Pour into greased and floured 11x16 pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
OR
Use 9x13 pan at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
ICING
Start making icing about five minutes before cake is done.
Melt together 1 stick butter, 1 tablespoon cocoa, 6 tablespoons milk. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat.
Add 1 box confectioner’s sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup pecans, 1 cup coconut. Mix well.
Spread on cake while still hot.

For the last few years, one of our favorite desserts has become those filled cream puff-like/eclair bites from Sam's. We melt dark chocolate chips with butter..and add the cherry juice from maraschino cherries..then dip the tops of the "puff" into the chocolate..and let it harden..just a bit. Of course, there are the usual pies and cakes and cookies. Help! I'm gaining weight as I type this!! LOL :)

I did find a recipe for Candy Cane pie that I might try. Does the one you buy have a chocolate crust or a regular pie crust?

Apple Dapple cake
Buttercrunch candy (promise I'll post the recipe soon, I've been requested to before :( )
The above are always served, each year, no matter what..it's not Christmas at our house without them. :p
Also, I bake TONS of cookies, and though they vary each year, I never go without baking lemon squares, and pecan snowballs. :)

Pam, I'm sorry. I'm just now seeing this question. The Candy Cane pie we buy has a regular pie crust. It is really rich and I think a chocolate crust would be too much - at least for the pie we buy.
Good luck! Let us know if you try the recipe. :)

One my favorite desserts for a Christmas dinner party is from Pillsbury's website. It is called "Fudge Nut Crostata with Raspberry Sauce". You use a tart pan, Readycrust from Pillsbury and it's basically a brownie batter with nuts and topped with the crust in a lattice design. The raspberry sauce is the finishing touch which makes this dessert so incredible. Everyone raves when I serve it. The red sauce makes it festive! Check it out on PILLSBURY'S website!!

I make something different every year. This year I think I'll make White Chocolate Cheesecake with a White Chocolate Brandy Sauce and fresh raspberries for a garnish.

Here you go......
WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE
4 oz. white chocolate
3 8-oz. packages cream cheese
3/4 cups sugar
1/4 cup flour
3 eggs
1/2 cup heavy cream (whipping cream)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Grease 10-inch spring form pan.
Preheat oven to 300º
Place cream cheese, sugar, and flour in a mixing bowl and cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down bowl and add melted white chocolate. While mixer is running on very low speed, slowly add vanilla and heavy cream. Blend well.
Pour mixture onto spring form pan. Place cheesecake pan in a water bath filled with warm water. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until center of cheesecake is just firm.
Cool at room temperature for 1 hour. Refrigerate until set before removing from pan.
Brandy Sauce for topping:
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups white chocolate, finely chopped
2 oz. brandy
Place heavy cream in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour over white chocolate and stir with a wooden spoon until melted. Add brandy and continue stirring until incorporated. Pour over chilled cheesecake and serve.
NOTE: I don't pour this sauce over the cheesecake. I cut individual slices and nap the sauce over the cheesecake add a few fresh raspberries and a sprig of mint.
