Hi all!

I remember one of my magazines last year had instructions (with pictures) for making the most amazing porch/outdoor decoration, and I figure Southern Living is the most likely place to start. The craft was an ethereal, hanging ghostly figure made by placing a styrofoam ball on a wire hanger - to form a head and shoulders - and draping torn shreds of white garbage bags, sheets, cloth, etc. over the hanger [may not be exact method, but it was very similar]. There were pictures of the figures hanging either from upper story windows and/or a porch... the figures were vaguely feminine with the long strips of white framing the face and hanging beneath like a tattered cloak or gown.

I'm desperate to find this piece but have no idea what the magazine was or what I did with it! I can narrow it down to decor-related publications, with Southern Living at the top of my list... if anyone can recall this item or direct me to it, I would be forever grateful. Thanks!

I do not know what magazine it was in but you already know yourself what to do, I can tell. While traveling the last couple of weeks I was in a really nice store outside of Danville, IL and that had made just these that you are speaking of! They were soooo cute! All they did was take a wire hanger and put the head (stryofoam) on the hook part and then took the wire hanger and bent it to make shoulders. Then they put white sheets over top of that (tying around the head part) and then putting the rest over the shoulders. They took tailored scissors and cut the bottom of the sheet to make the fringes. They made eyes with black marker on some and black buttons with others. They had small pumpkins all around and used angel hair in some places and white roping that they used to create a spider net with a black spider in the middle.

Hmmm... you're giving me great confidence! Maybe I should try it on my own after all. I've been so fixated on finding the exact article's instructions that I haven't really given any thought to trying it on my own with what I remember. I'll post the end result if I get ambitious (provided it's not too embarassing ;-O )

Thanks Lisa!
