I'm considering attempting a gingerbread house again.
Any TNT recipes you would like to share? Tips ?
The last time I attempted one I only succeded in teaching everyone in the house a new vocabulary. The problem seemed to be that the gingerbread wasn't strong enough. TIA

I think one of my Better Homes & Gardens cookie magazines had a recipe for a gingerbread house in it last year, but it wasn't ginger but more sugar cookie being used.
I actually took the pattern and increased it to size and had every intention of making it. I thought it would be great fun! But then I remember the time that I thought it would be great fun to make my own clothes. So I bought several yards of a beautiful fabric and a pattern. Then I realized that I can't sew a straight line and I have no grace. So the project went into the trash, and money was wasted.
So, I got to looking at the recipe again and realized I'd be lucky if I could even get these cookie pieces just the right size, then I'd be lucky if I could get them to stick to each other. Making it look as beautiful as the one in the picture - that would take a miracle. So the idea got trashed as quickly as it was born.
Ever notice how cookies now are more decorative that I ever remember? The cookies in the magazines look like artists did them.
I'm a cook, but not an artist. Wish I was both or I'd be making me a gingerbread house!!! Good luck with it, post us a picture if you go for it :)

Last year we just got one of the kits from Wal-mart and put it together. The gingerbread came in the pieces of the house and it comes with a tray to stand it up in, so it wasn't too bad to get to stay together. My sis and I along with my DD made it and had a great time doing it!

the kids and I are making little gingerbread houses that are made from the base of a milk carton using graham crackers I would love to do a traditional one but doing it this way will be way easier with my little ones.

Our local museum here has an exhibit every year. My granddaughter loves to go and this year she wanted to enter one. I just googled gingerbread houses and got wonderful ideas and recipes. Our theme was Christmas on the Erie Canal, since we live in Syracuse NY. She did most of the decorating, she is 11. You can see pictures of it on my blog.

Rachael is using rice krispy treats to make her house. That might be a good idea for a sturdier house. Let me see if I can find a link...

I would buy a kit and add my own decorations. I used to know a guy whose sister made them for people - large ones - and she put tiny lights on them. They were great. He kept his for several years by putting it in plastic garbage bags to store it. I don't recommend that, but it worlked for him.
