I thought it was about time I dropped by to see what's happening on the front porch ;)

We seem to have gone from one illness to the next and I feel as if I have been out of touch with everyone.....thru' no one's fault but my own :o

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO before today throws up any more problems I thought I would say HELLO from the Midlands of England.

The holiday season is nearly upon us....and there's very little been done here in my little corner of the world yet!

Good morning, coventrykid! I was thinking of you this morning when I opened my email.....had a great offer from American Airlines for a last minute package to the UK...I sure would like to take advantage of that! Prices are super!

We haven't done any decorating yet but hope to start with a little today....still have many leaves to rake or blow out of the yard.

Glad to see you posting and hope you are over all "illness" for a long time!

Good morning! Hope all is well with you and yours!!! Since you live in england - I have to ask you - Do you do Tea Time every day?????? If so, what kind and how do you make yours?? With cream, sugar or what?? Also, what do you have with it??? I am asking because I am going to be working on a teacher's tea for my son's school and would like to know if you have a favorite scone recipe or anything else that would be perfect with tea! Around here, we drink sweet iced tea, and occasionally hot tea. So any suggestions would be great!

Good to see you back, coventrykid. I do hope you and your family are over the illness. Take care of yourself and visit more often, if time allows.

Hello!

It's me.....I havn't fallen off the end of the earth!

Well......what a TIME we have had with this computer!

To cut a VERY long story short there was some problems with the computer...and they have been made worse by the help desk!!!!

AND......if that wasn't bad enough the phone call to the help desk (NOT A FREE PHONE!!!) COST £11.....roughly $22.

After that the problems got worse...15 mins for ONE e-mail to come thru'..... I had to phone another thelp desk called 'the geek squad' - that has cost a further £25 ($50) so as you can guess I am not a happy bunny!

HOPEFULLY all will be well now ( they did give us a 5 day warranty)...big deal!

It has been the biggest pain!

Hope you are all OK....how are you getting on with your Christmas preperations????

I am not getting anywhere at the moment, other than I did buy some chocolates.

Things are plodding on here, my husband has had another check up regarding his blood pressure (he has had to see the nurse for the past 3 weeks) it is still too high and rising ....so next week they are going to check it again and start some blood tests and he has to have an ECG.

Other than that...everything is peachy hahahah

Hello There Alexa-Jayne....I am sorry I have taken forever to answer this

We drink tea in this house all day long!

I don't take sugar in tea or coffee so I have it with milk.

Personally, we like ours made in the tea pot (even though we use tea bags) I don't think it tastes the same made in the cup.

When we stayed with our friends in Florida (in Milton not too far from you) I put my poor friend into a spin as she dosn't use a kettle ....anyway we got around it by boiling the water in a saucepan

When we went to USA last year I brought tea bags with me...I had heard from my English friend in Georgia that the American tea wasn't like the English tea.

She also asked for rich tea biscuits (cookies) and galaxy chocolate bars.

As I say any time is tea time here, BUT traditionally the English have AFTERNOON TEA.

This consists of little sandwiches (with the crusts cut off) cut into triangles, with different fillings eg cucumber, egg and cress, tuna, salmon.

Then scones with thick fresh cream and jam, also slices of fruit cake.

I have never been BUT the Ritz in London is THE place to have afternoon tea:)

Regarding recipes.....when we have scones I always buy them :o ...but I have looked in my ancient cookbook....my daughter thinks it's as old fashioned as the hills and laughs whenever I get it out.

Here is a recipe for scones.

I'll type it out as it is written.

Warm, buttered scones, spred with plenty of homemade jam and topped with whipped fresh or clotted cream, are everyone's idea of an English cream tea.

If buttermilk is not available, use freash milk with 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice.

1/2lb plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1oz butter
1/4pint buttermilk

Sift the flour with the bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter. Make a well in the centre of the flour and pour in the buttrmilk, mixing quickly to a soft dough with a palette knife.
Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead lightly until smoth.
Roll out until approx. 1/4 inch thick.
Stamp our approx. 12 rounds with a 2in pastry cutter.
Leave to stand for 15 minutes before baking.
Put the rounds on a heated greased baking sheet and bake in a hot oven (220c/425f or gas mark 7) for about 10 minutes or until the scones are well-risen and golden.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly.Serve warm.

AND ENJOY

I know that we have different names for things here....so I hope that someone else on here will be able to tell you the American equilivent
