I just got my June issue and I it looks GREAT! Each issue is getting better and better. Feels like Southern Living. Be sure to read "Fresh From The Bayou" -- great story and the recipes sound delicious! Can't wait to try them -- I think my family's gonna go nuts for the gumbo-like stew. Great pix too.

Welcome to the SLBB, Augusta! Are you talking about the Southern Living June issue? Have they gone back to the old style mag? The new style has been quite unpopular on these boards. We liked it just the way it was, and I think most of us continue to hope the powers that be at SL will realize that we liked the mag mostly because of its uniqueness in layout! Now it is looking like the less expensibe mags and isn't as inviting on the stands or to receive in our mailbox. Sorry to go on and on, but I haven't received my June issue.

Yeah, I'm talking about the new issue of Southern Living -- I think it looks fresh, energetic, and very much about the beauty and uniquness of TODAY'S South (which is why my friends and I subscribe). I think you'll be pleased...and definitely consider the shrimp-and-sausage stew -- it looks like a real winner. :)

I haven't received mine yet either. I think my SL comes by pony express.

Welcome to the boards, Augusta. I'm just curious but do you work for SL? I noticed on some of your other posts that you travel quite a bit...I haven't gotten my June issue yet wither, but I'll be sure to check out the gumbo.

Augusta,

Welcome! I too wondered if you worked for SL from what you have written. If you don't, maybe you should :)

Personally, I think writing for SL would be such a grand job to have.

PS I haven't received the June issue either...

I have enough T-ball games and homework projects to keep me plenty busy (and happy), but we do love to travel.

A lot of working mothers and dads are in that boat! This questioning is not to be rude at all, just one that is on more than a few members' mind after reading your posts. Do you really work for SL? If you or someone near you does, please pass the word that we are not happy with the new look at all. This board has discussed this over and over. Like the other things that have changed lately, I wonder what they are saying to those of us who have bragged on their mag and website all these years when they don't pay attention to our honest feedback.

Augusta, TIA, for a definitive answer. Again, we look forward to your posts and input, but we want to know if you are an employee or relative. If not either, are you new to the mag, too? Maybe you don't realize what a great mag it was until the recent layout changes!!!!

The last time I saw a Southern Living mag it had the same look as Sunset mag..which is the West Coast version. The Southern Living that I recall was a big beautiful glossy mag and I just loved its layout. It was better than BHG and House Beautiful.

I've always hated the way Sunset was laid out, it looked more like a big advertizing mag with very few real articles thrown in. You had to wade through pages of ads at a time. I hope what you are saying here is that SL no longer is in the same format as Sunset. I can understand your dissatisfaction if it is.

Licia, maybe tomorrow you will get yours, since Augusta has hers. Surely they ship by state. It seems that normally the people in the Carolinas get theirs a little after the ones in TN and AL. Maybe there is no rhyme or reason to how they ship them. Hope we all get them soon. I'm not sure if I have ever rec'd an issue this far from the new month. Just remembered that some of the ones nearest B'ham were the last to receive their mags one month.

Just ignore me ... I'm trying to figure out why some threads allow editing and others don't.

Ok, this one did. And two others in the Food category I posted to yesterday and today allowed me to edit. Maybe it's only an option under the Food category?

Just posted on the What's for Supper? thread (what's up with the name change?) and no edit option there.

Charley, first off, glad to see you back. But about the edit button--"they" created some new forums a week or so ago and all the new categories had the edit button available--YAY! But it has not been activated on any of the previously existing categories--BOO! As for the "What's for Supper" category, even though it's new it's where ALL the previous food-related topics were moved to, so I guess those threads are "old" and don't have the edit button. Also, as on many other message boards using the V-Bulletin system, the edit button deactivates after a certain length of time.

I don't always post on the "What's For Dinner" thread because most of the time mine aren't that interesting, so I hadn't really noticed the name change. But, really, "What's for Supper?" Geesh, what is this--Hee Haw? No, couldn't be, we're part of the new South. :p

...and a good way to be raised, missymom! If your grandpa was like mine, he could do no wrong!!! (In my sight!) I don't have a problem with supper or dinner. I think it was strange that "they" renamed a thread.....but then lots of things are strange here!!

As far as the magazine....my subscription has expired and I haven't renewed. I'm very disappointed with the magazine.

eHelen, did you ever get an answer to your question?? I didn't see one!!

shannon, thanks for that info.....I didn't know that! Maybe if that had been in place "way back when" we wouldn't have been deprived of it for so long!:D

charley, how's your garden?? On second thought, check your email!

Oh, no offense I hope! Nothing wrong with the word "supper" itself, but it just seems a little, I don't know, contrived, maybe even patronizing, to change the name. Methinks SL must have recently undergone an editorial staff change and some of the newbies aren't "from around here" if you KWIM. ;)

Shannon, I think you hit the nail on the head!

I heard "supper" growing up and still hear it when I go home for a visit, but we've been calling it "dinner" here for years ... so yeah, it is irritating.

Minda, got your mail. Garden is doing good. Been harvesting a few cherry tomatoes and fighting the caterpillars on beefsteaks. We had a lot of rain this week, so next I'll be on the lookout for blossom end rot. Did you plant a garden this year?

We planted a few Romas, a couple of German Johnson tomatoes and a few bell peppers! BIG garden this year!:D

Haven't seen any caterpillars on the tomatoes.....just hoping to see some BST caterpillars soon.....we have parsley, dill and Queen Anne's Lacy ready for them! Have you seen any eggs or caterpillars yet? I think it may be a little early.

I know you are enjoying that screen porch!

I surely wish my June issue would arrive. I hope I can be excited about it, too.

Has anyone else received their June issue?

by clicking on the yellow SL at the top part of this page. "Fresh From The Bayou" is on the page and then you can click to see the recipe. Here is what I think will take you directly to the Stew. And btw, it says it is from the June 2008 mag at the bottom of the recipe!!! Sounds good, but I think I'll stick to gumbo made with a roux!

I don't have mine yet either. I usually get mine toward the end of the month, though. My friend who lives one neighborhood over from me gets hers at least week earlier than I do.
