DH and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in December and we had planned on celebrating with a week-long trip to Cozumel the first week of December and we found out yesterday that it may have to be cancelled or at the least dates changed! :( We both work for the same place and the wife of the other salesman is expecting a baby at the end of November and we aren't sure what he is going to do with regard to time off, etc.

We had planned our trip to fall the last week before what is considered High Time in Cozumel when the prices go up to exhorbatent rates. I could just cry. So now, we are dropping back 10 and punting. Any one got any good suggestions? LUCKILY we had not purchased our tickets yet!!!!!

Oh, I'm really sorry to hear this. When do you think you'll know about being able to get the time off?

I don't know if they let you do this anymore since 09/11 but one of my friends is a stewardess & she & her husband used to fly to Tampa and/or Miami & get on last minute cruises all the time. They would pay a fraction of what other people paid, they did not always get the room that they wanted but the food/enjoyment everything was the same & they usually saved 30 to 40%.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

If going during high season is going to be too expensice, you could consider going to Belize instead. You would still have the beach - and other neat places too. You can go really expensive or really cheap in Belize. We're going in October and we're leaning towards the cheap side! :) Personally, I think it's the best way to experience it.

Also, I don't know where you live, but flights there are really cheap too if you live close to certain airports - flying from Charlotte is VERY reasonable.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do - and congrats on 20 years!!!

Could you go a couple of weeks earlier?

Jill - thanks for the tip on Belize - where do you stay when you go?

I looked today on Orbitz and there are actually a couple of places that we could - not our first choice obviously - that would still be in our range for the very next week. My biggest concern is the fact that this is their first child and she is due the 27th of Nov. and if she is anything like every other 1st time pregnant woman it could be 2+/- weeks before OR after her due date when she actually gives birth. At that point I'm afraid it would be too close to try and get tickets/rooms without paying through the nose. We've never traveled outside the US by ourselves and we were so excited! Now just a little scared that it's not going to happen at all. As far as going earlier, I'm going to New York the last part of October for a music conference that I am already registered for/plane tickets/hotel rooms, etc. and can't change those plans. I checked prices for the week of Christmas $1700 per person! For the exact same room/plane, etc the week we were planning is less than $800.00 per person - HUGE difference. sigh :(

Hey,

We're staying in cute little thatched roof huts during the "jungle" part of our trip in San Ignacio - Clarissa Falls. http://www.clarissafalls.com/ Our huts are only $50/night!

Our oceanfront beach hut at Placencia is even less - $40/night.

I haven't booked our room yet on Caye Caulker, but it will be in the same price range.

If you want any more tips, just email. Or...this is a good site:
