Well, somethings never change - I am always wanting gift ideas, I know. :D I need a birthday gift for a little 8 y/o boy. My son just turned 9 and is ALL BOY - funny, loud, laughs a lot, boisterious, brings the party with him, athletic, has a ton of friends, etc. - loves "boy" stuff (as do most of his friends so they are easy to buy for) - loves the outdoors, loves to get dirty, climbs, burps and poots - you know the deal.

This little guy isn't like that. He's very sweet, a little nerdy, quiet, reserved, and a very gentle soul (a little skiddish and cautious - VERY overprotected and I know has NEVER been dirty, burped out loud or pooted in his life! lol! ). I don't know what toys he likes - he's a friend of DS's from church, but they've never played together.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Maybe a child's book? (If he hasn't already read the latest Harry Potter book, though I know some parents might not want their kids to read it.)

What about a gift certificate to SuperTarget? (Most kids can ALWAYS find something there.) :D

A Target G/C is a great idea! Thanks!

Missi,

Our standard bday party gift for boys that age is a metal detector! Target has one that is in the "Discovery Toys" section and is about $15. Every child we have given it to absolutely loves it. It works well and kids just love "finding" stuff whether they are shy or out going! I remember being a kid and thinking they were the coolest things going.

Thanks, SS! We are going to Target this afternoon and I will check them out. My son has a metal detector and loves it (he's had it 2-3 years) and uses it often..... esp. when we go to the beach. :)
