Anyone making plans for the 4th of July.....only a week away!!! We're working on our plans now just haven't put finishing touches on them!

What are y'all planning to do to celebrate?

We will continue our tradition of eating Jim 'N Nick's brisket and going to my office to view Nashville's fireworks. We've done that since my six-year-old niece was born. Her dad is stationed in Germany and we were afraid our tradition would be broken this year, but they allowed her to visit my sister for a few weeks over the summer, including July 4th. (In fact, I'm keeping her Friday while my sister, an ER nurse, works. Fun!)

Our traditional 4th of July plans are to go to the beach house in RI to celebrate Grandma's birthday (she will be 93 this year). The entire family comes for her birthday (all the relatives from out of the area come from AZ, SC, FL, etc. to celebrate). There are usually about 80+ people for her birthday party (actual birthday is July 3rd).

Unfortunately, this year we are not going to be able to go. We are going to spend the day with my Dad at the Rehab Center. We are hoping he will be able to go for day trips by then and we will go for a picnic. DH is already planning a picnic menu for us... I think pulled pork sandwiches will be the big ticket item, per request of my Dad.

My Dad is so happy that we are going to be there with him for the day. I think he was worried about being alone. DH and I will go, along with my brother, SIL and their two kids. I think we are going have a fabulous day. Now I just have to find a park near the Rehab Facility for the festivities.

We'd originally thought about going out of town, but DS will play in a All Star baseball game that Sunday. Can you say HOT? UGH!

So, we are just going to grill Sat. night - maybe have a few friends over, then we go to a big fireworks show - we take blankets, something to drink, and sit on the grass and relax. For supper, I am thinking ribs and/or brisket, but I am not sure. We will make homemade ice cream as well.

Same for us, Angel. Lake and then fireworks on the lake. I hope the weather holds out.

Martha Stewart had some wonderful 4th of July recipes and decorations in the July issue. I think I am going to try my hand at a few this Saturday. Did SL have anything new or 4th of July themed?

We "firmed" up plans this morning for our celebration. We'll be at DD's with family members and friends. Pork BBQ and all the trimmings, freezers of ice cream, watermelon and since she lives on a lake we'll enjoy the fireworks there. She has taken over the responsibilities of the 4th for the last two years and does a great job!

We will be going to my dad's and having a picnic and pool party. Early evening we have been invited to some friends and will take appetizers and hopefully watch some fireworks.

We just finished the 10th annual Red, White and Blue Festival here. It is always the weekend before the 4th. Air show, car show, parade, lots of activities and concerts ending with a spectacular fireworks show. Next weekend there will be fireworks on both area lakes. Norfork Lake on the 3rd and Bull Shoals Lake on the 4th. Since we already saw the fireworks, we may just stay here and smoke some ribs with some friends.

We are having a family gathering for the 4th while I am "up here" visiting. I'll be camped by the pool with my sister while the men BBQ. Then fireworks in the evening.

we've finally made some plans for the 4th -- DH and I will be mowing, raking and baling hay:rolleyes: Not really what I had wished for, but ya gotta "make hay while the sun shines"! At the end of the day, there will be something cool to drink.

We'll pick up my FIL from the assisted living and have a meal - not sure if we will grill out or not, depends on the heat index! That is probably about it.

That sounds like a lot of fun!!

We are going to a pig pickin' on Friday afternoon that will be about the same amount of people as your party. I am asked to bring a side. What should I take??

What about a layered Mexican dip? One that is served cold?

it'll be one of two options. The first option (im more in favor of) is going to the lake for the weekend. sit at the island for the day and go to a buddies camp for a party at night.

The second option is taking the boat on the Neches river and sitting at a sand bar all day long and watch fireworks at night.

Here's why the second option isnt a good idea.......it's in city limits, CROWDED AS HECK, cops EVERYWHERE, and then having to load the boat on the trailor, and driving 45 minutes back home. if we went to the lake, we keep the boat in the water, and camp is a few minutes walk

We have our plans in order as of today. DH took our camper down to the Lake. The lake is wonderful but that campground is "yuk"! We will be out on the boat all day so we will not be there that much. Firework display that night is ok. Not sure what our menu will be so I will keep checking what all of you wonderful cooks are planning!!!
