Anybody had, planned or been to a dessert only wedding reception? If so what was served and how was it all arranged?

I went to one a few years ago. They served wedding cake, chocolate groom's cake, chocolate fountain with the usual things to dip in the chocolate, 2 or 3 different kinds of cookies, several types of individually wrapped candy, 2 different kinds of brownies, mini pecan tarts, fruit trays, and several sugar free items (can't remember exactly what they were). This couple loves Dr. Pepper, so they ordered small glass bottles from the Dr. Pepper plant and served them. Bottled water, coffee and punch were also served.
They used tiered serving pieces and different sizes of platters. It looked like there were boxes of different sizes under the table cloths with the platters on top. The different levels looked nice. Hope this helps.

We've had two dessert receptions with our daughter's and our son's weddings. For our daughter's wedding..we rented two huge 3-4 tiered silver cookie trays. Filled with wedding cookies, small eclairs, little cheesecakes, glazed fruits, chocolate strawberries and on and on. :) I bought small doilies..and most of the foods set on them on the tray. They were on a rectangle table at one end of the reception hall. The wedding cake was in the middle of the floor on a round table. And on another round table we had the "champagne" fountain. Coffee was at another station. This was so much fun to plan..but I didnt do the baking..thank goodness!! The wedding was at 7 p.m..so we thought dessert would be appropriate..and ..<gasp> cheaper than a full sit down meal for 200. ;) On each of the guests tables were white monogrammed boxes with small chocolate fudge cakes..shaped in a heart. These were wrapped in bows..and used as table decorations..as well as we considered them the groom's cake.
For son's wedding..his father in law is a great cook..he made lots and lots of different kinds of pies. They were wonderful.
If you're planning a dessert reception, I would suggest that you wouldnt need to have such a huge wedding cake. Daughter's was a 3 tiered cake with 5 satellite cakes around it. We had two of the satellite cakes..uncut at the end of the night. Oh yes..and I forgot..we had Jordan almonds on the cake table too.
Have fun!! :)

I just went to my 2nd, both events very different. The last was just beautiful...they had a candy bar, tall glass pieces of different heights with various colorful candies. An icecream bar with wonderful homemade waffle cones and hand dipped icecream with toppings, creme brulee, bananas foster, mini tarts and an aray of other deserts, not to mention the wedding and grooms cake. It certainly was a decadent affair.

Well I haven't been in a wedding reception with 'desserts only' being served but I am thinking and suggesting of having an all chocolate wedding reception, any kinds, to answer your question. Your guests will definitely enjoy all the chocolates to the limit. A chocolate fountain at the center of the reception will be great as a teaser. I am confident that all have tasted chocolates and no one will dare not to eat at least one kind of what you are serving. what do you think?

We married at 3:00 p.m. (small ceremony), so we just served wedding cake, a chocolate groom's cake, fresh fruit platters (w/ frosted grapes on them - they were so pretty), platter of cheese and nice crackers, nuts, mints, and a punch fountain.

My sister did this last year at hers and it was a beautiful table! Saved a lot on flowers and decor as the decorations were edible. She had cute cellophane bags on the table along with silver scoops and let the guests fill the bags to take home as favors.

The way I think of weddings- and perhaps this is because I haven't been married yet- is that I'll eat and enjoy whatever the bride and groom have prepared for me. If they would like everyone to only have chocolate, and lots of it, then that's terrific. If you're going to serve me a 3-course meal, delicious! I am a firm believer in doing what you want to do and not worrying about the etiquette.
Ok, that being said, I think your chocolate platter idea sounds great. I went to a very fancy wedding in Philadelphia where they served many courses. But to be honest the only thing I remember is the great spread of desserts they served- a really cute grooms cake, wedding cake, chocolate fountain and dipping materials.
So go for it! I think it'll be great for the guests AND the couple!:D
