What are y'all planning for your front door this fall? As the summer starts to wither one starts to think about glorious fall and the spectacular fall colors that we enjoy in many parts of the country.
I think I'm going to use a big corn husk wreath on my front door this year, just wondering what y'all have planned??????

I do Southern LIving at Home, so I have the Twirly Twigs basket that I decorated last year that I'll put on the front door. I have a bunch of the foam pumpkins that I bought last year that I group up on the front porch. I have already put mums in my window boxes and hope to get some more soon.

I have the SLAH Flower Market Door Bucket, that I thought I might do a fall arrangement in. The only thing is, I have a storm door, and I haven't always liked hanging anything on it. Mainly because the kids are always coming in and out and it makes the door bucket sort of hit against the door. And my doggies who like lying in front of the door, always want to bark at it. Usually I hang a wreath on it, only at Christmas. I'll think about this some more.
I'll do an arrangement on the porch and front steps with pumpkins and gourds, and probably add a few potted mums. I have two large potted dwarf alberta spruce that sit on the porch at the top of the steps. I may plant a few pansies in there too with the spruce. Its pretty how they frame around the bottom of the spruce and flow over the side of the planter.

Flowerchild,
We bought some of that felt that you can use for furniture and just put a tad on the back of my buckets. That way they don't bang on the door.

A few years ago my Mom made a decoration that is a decorative broom with fall leaves and a mini scarecrow. It is really cute. I will probably use that somewhere. I also have two wreaths that are bright orange/yellow fall leaves. The wreath, the broom or a combination is what I will use.

Those SL mag wreaths are gorgeous. I need to make some new things for the front this year. I saw, in the fall SLAH catalog, some gorgeous vine topiary deals with fall squash/leaves attached that I may try. I will probably do some of those stacked pumpkin topiaries as well.
I also saw, in something????, some apple topiaries that were grouped/staggerd on a table as a centerpiece that I thought would be lovely on my sofa table. Hopefully I will have as much money/time and I have ideas! ;)
I am so ready for Fall..... :D
Those wreaths are beautiful. I have a pretty Fall wreath that I bought last year at Tuesday Morning I'll probably use again. That is unless I get inspired to try something new.

I've not decided exactly what I'll do for the front door. Like others, I have a glass door and since it is our main entrance, I don't like things "banging" on it.........however, I do love to put out potted plants and other fall stuff.

Here's a little story about the wreath I had last year.
I had looked everywhere for the perfect wreath and finally found it. I can't remember the price, but it was somewhere between $50.00 and $75.00. Didn't want to pay that much for a wreath that would be outside, so I decided to look around. The next couple weeks I hit every store trying to find the perfect wreath, but none of them compared to the first one. Finally, I just went and bought it. Brought it home and noticed it said "for indoor use only". Thinking it wouldn't matter since it would be under a covered porch I went ahead a hung it out.
The next morning I noticed it was very damp outside. Went out and looked and the orange and red color from the fall leaves in the wreath was running down the side of my house. I cleaned up the side of the house and decided to just take the wreath in every night.(BIG PAIN) After about a week of doing this, I noticed my beautiful wreath was starting to get little black dots all over it. By about the 2nd week, my entire wreath was covered in BLACK mold. I guess it getting damp and then the changing of temperatures from taking it from outside to inside really got the mold growing. Needless to say, I am on the hunt for the perfect "OUTDOOR" wreath again this fall.

OH No, Miss MO! I would have been sick about that, especially after spending $$$. Better luck this year! ;)

Miss Mo, I am curious...what was the wreath made of? Was it dried leaves or silks or ??? So sorry about that.

That would be so disappointing!!!! Hopefully you'll find something wonderful this fall, I remember your experience should I ever purchase a wreath that says inside use only!
Sorry about the wreath, MissMo~I would be unhappy about that...
I'll be filling up a wooden wheelbarrow with dried vine, pumpkins & maybe little white lights, putting up a beautiful fall plaque, putting out pots of mums & trying to find a wreath to put on the louvered screen door...actually, if I lived somewhere that really has a great fall, I'd probably go wayyyyyyy over the top :D .

Why can't I get this link to open? Other SL links have opened for me. I am a subscriber to the magazine.

I'm not sure what the wreath was made of. I'm thinking it was the dried leaves that are orange, red and yellow like the ones you can buy at Hobby Lobby in the packages. It also had acorns and some other things. Since it was up under the porch I didn't think it really mattered. I never thought of the cool nights and the moisture. I guess it is a lesson learned.

Ok, so I love the fruit ideas.. yet with this heat lately.. even keeping a some sort of gourd will be hard.

I was at Sam's Club yesterday and they had some fall wreaths out. First thing I did was to look and see if they were indoor or out door. Never thought of it before this thread! It didn't say which it was but it did advertise an "indoor" hanger so I decided against it! :(

My main problem with my wreaths is that they fade from the sunshine. It's so hot down here - days that are cool, days that are hot, etc. I buy (or make) inexpensive wreaths now and replace when they start to look worn. I haven't seen them at Sam's yet, but I'm going next week and will look. They always have pretty ones.

MissMo, I'm sorry to read about your wreath. That would be really disappointing. :(
I have a beautiful fall door arrangement that a dear friend helped me with. It's an SLAH wall bucket with orange and yellow silk flowers and a beautiful plaid bow. I love it - it's very stylish - and I feel like my door is properly dressed for the season. :D

I'm sooo ready for Fall, too. It's so hot here in NC right now. I haven't decided how I'm going to decorate the front door or our front porch yet; this will be our first Fall in our new house; I'm so excited, though. :D

I just recieved my SLAH twig basket to hang on the front door. My mom and I are getting together this weekend to put an arrangement in it. I've got some geourgous fall leave to put in it - i'm excited. This is my first fall in my new home.
I'm also looking for a decorative broom to decorate and hang for Halloween.
I love the fall colors and temperatures - I can't wait.

Last Fall, I found the cutest wall bucket at Michael's. I used my 40% off coupon, and got it for a real steal. I packed some newspaper down at the bottom, and stuck some Fall foliage (fake  ) in there. The newspaper helped the foliage to stay put and not roll around. It looked so pretty! I will use the same thing this year too.
I also love to set my pumpkins up at the end of the front flower bed. I have the cutest yard stake from Target that is a little (flat) metal buclet with little metal apples in it. It says "Happy Harvest." It looks very cute. :)

I bought some gorgeous fall wired ribbon today at Sams! They already have a ton of beautiful Christmas ribbon out (wide, wired ribbon, 55 yards for $7.98!) and was so happily surprised to see some beautiful fall ones mixed in!
I got some that looks like burlap is about 4 inches wide, wired and lovely colored fall leaves printed on it. I can't wait to use it.
Craigery,
that twig basket is one of my favorite things from SLAH~I don't know why I haven't bought it yet!
Oh, and congrats on your first fall in your new home :)

I look when I was at Sam's the other day because I love those spools of ribbon but all ours had was for the Christmas holiday. Guess I'll see what Costco has.

Fall is probably my favorite season. I have a fall wreath, but I just got the SLatH Flower Market Door Bucket and I may do something fallish in it. We have a set of French doors that you can see from the front and I can't decide if it would look right to have the bucket on the front door with fall wreaths on the French doors. What do y'all think?

Miss Mo, I am so sorry about your wreath! It reminds me of a story about my daddy's wreath. My daddy went out a bought the prettiest fall wreath last year. It had the autumn leaves, berries, accorns, little pods, and flowers. He put it up on his front door, and within a few days, the birds were picking things off of it. He spent about 3 days shooing the birds away. They picked the berries, and anything else off of it that they could. Daddy finally got so exasperated that he brought the wreath in and made a centerpiece out of it for his coffee table. It was funny!
