Well, I've always wanted to learn to knit and I've signed up for a class at Michael's. Wish me luck!

Good Luck - I used to knit many years ago, drove my husband nutz, I got quite good at it if I say so myself - made several chunky cardigans and everytime I finished one, my sister, or one of her friends wanted to buy it, so I never actually finished one for myself - but it is fun to watch the yarn grow!!!!

I have got "knit" down, but I can't "purl" for anything :( ...I guess I'll master it one day...until, every one gets scarves for Christmas done with only the knit stitch :)

Good luck in your class :)

Good luck Renee. I don't knit myself I would rather smock but my girlfriends love it. It can be quite the social thing to if you get into a "knitting club". There are so many fun styles now out that you can knit your own pieces and be quite the fashion plate.

Hi Renee,

I just finished a knitting class! I love it - there are so many beautiful things you can make, although I may need a few more lessons! We have a knitting "club" that I plan to attend for more ideas and help! Good Luck!

Mrs. Ashton, my mother's neighbor used to hand-smock and made beautiful things. I can't remember so tell me: does this require a sewing machine? I'd like to try it too but I can't sew a lick!

Renee I don't have a sewing machine or do regualr sewing either. You can buy either ready to smock outfits (http://three2eight.com/item.jsp?category=7657) or pre pleated pieces from a smocking/sewing store or online.

Renee,
Enjoy it! My Mom taught me how to knit years ago, but I wasn't very proficient at it until I took a felting class at UVa. I love knitting...it's very peaceful and lately I've been knitting caps (it's a super easy pattern) as part of a charitable project at church that are sent to children in Mongolia. Kind of a weird charitable effort for a church in the desert!
