Ok, we are turning our guest bedroom into an office/DH den/guest room and I would dearly love some opinions.
We have a computer armoire (black from the attic heirloom collection from Broyhill) and a sleeper sofa a friend is giving us because she's moving. It is sort of a corduroy dark green very basic sofa and definitely leans towards the masculine. I also have a cedar chest that I plan to paint to match the armoire to use as the coffee table and also to store the bedding for the sleeper sofa and that's as far as I've gotten. The carpet is a neutral frieze and there is one window with white plantation shutters. I definitely want to paint the walls and add pics, lamps, etc. etc. Any ideas on color schemes or ideas would be appreciated!

I you want to stay on the masculin side, you could paint the walls a khaki color and maybe find some prints of the old aged looking mapsand some antique looking pieces. If you wanted to make it more girly you could still paint the walls maybe a softer khaki then find some pretty fabric to do a window treatment and some pillows to brighten it up. Maybe some thing like Waverly's Garden Images with the black background and add more cottegy accessories.

I like Belle's idea of a khaki color~yesterday, DH & I were at the Sherwin-Williams store picking up some paint & a lady came in with an old can that had paint drips on it (rusted and all that, too), asking if she could get that color mixed still. Apparently, it is an old color that isn't in the new color decks, but in the old one...well, anyway, the name is Kinetic Khaki and it is a great color! I will probably be using that one in our new home :)

Or, you could go with a soft yellow. Olives/deep reds/yellowy golds are such a well-liked color palette right now, especially with your great black furniture :) .

I like the khaki idea - or a soft coffee cream color. With the white plantation shutters - you don't want them sticking out like a white beacon on the window.

I'd look for some fabric that pulls in all those colors - or even a black backgrounded fabric - to do a window topper.

If you need more architecture in there - maybe a wooden cornice over the window to add some - and you can decorate up there.

I'm picturing a nice leather chair in the corner - a club chair kind of thing - for extra comfort.

Big baskets - heavy thick weaves - not small like a wicker.

Keep it more on the rustic side - but you can add things like cream colored magnolias, candles, to warm it up a bit.

Lots of good ideas! I like the khacki color idea, plus some sort of interest print. I was thinking a red background or even yellow with a small figure on it...

I'm really so appreciative of the input I've received here. I'm beginning to get a "look" in my mind and I can't wait to begin work on it. I'll post pics and please keep the ideas coming!! Thanks a million!

Lynn, yes, I'm keeping the sofa the dark green and I want the room to be somewhat masculine because it's going to serve as DH's home office. I also will pull in some golf type stuff without getting TOO themey because he's a big golfer. I'm in love with the khaki wall idea and really all the other ideas I've received!!!

I can just picture a black and khaki toile print!

Although a stripe would look good, as well.

Wooo hoooo..fun...YELLOW and White both bright...find bright yellow cover for sofa with black cushions and white ones...use lots of color..colored file covers..etc..you have the "cottage" look with the shutters..use some mirrors with bright black frames. Look for special swag at window with those colors. Add things in the three colors and punch it with either bright turquose or red..that is what I would do..good luck
