Is there anybody else out there who's experienced doggie seizures? My 11 year old Jack Russell had one about a month ago. It only lasted about 10 seconds, but that was 10 seconds too long. The vet said it was nothing to worry about (?), dogs had them occasionally. It was when they became frequent that I needed to worry. He had another one last night and it scared me to death. He was eating in his corner of the kitchen, when he fell over on his side and started kicking his feet frantically. I ran over and petted him and he slowly got to his feet. It took him a few seconds to compose himself, but he was all right. He was all right this morning, too, but we have to leave him by himself while we work.

So, that's only two that I've seen. Who knows what happens when we're not there? Is it time for me to go into panic mode yet? If he were a child (which he is to me), would the doctor just shrug and say don't worry about it?

If anyone else has any experience with this, please let me know. I worry about my fur babies.

It could be nothing but I think I'd have to have a 2nd opinion. If only to calm my nerves. ((hugs)) Hope your furbaby is ok.

I don't have any experience, but I do sympathize with you--and him. Poor little guy; he's probably scared when it happens. I think since it's happened more than once I'd go to another vet for a second opinion. Like you said, if this was a human, no one would just say, "Oh well, it happens." Have you done any research on the internet to find out possible causes? That might either reassure you or let you know what your next course of action should be.

I found a link that seems to have some good information:
Dog Seizures (http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/Why.html)

Thanks, Shannon. I checked out the site and it gave useful info, but it sounds like my Bear falls in the "I don't know" catagory. I wonder if it's a brain tumor, because his sight has been rapidly failing, too. Vet just says he's old. Hmmm. I'm going to keep looking and possibly go for a second opinion. I want my baby to be safe and healthy as long as he can be.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep yall posted.

Personally, I'd want a second opinion if my vet refused to pursue testing for causes. Sounds too traumatic for the vet to blow it off as old age. I have a friend whose dog has epilepsy and is on medication. Tumors can certainly be detected. Get your baby to new doctor!
