I am a member of a book club that has 12 members. We have been meeting for almost 10 years and are like family. A great group and we really do discuss books! (And drink wine and eat!) February is my turn to host and I am thinking of having the club meet at the local coffee house instead of in my home. What do you think? I'd pay for the coffees and have dessert and maybe light sandwiches. The coffee house is cute and has a fireplace and has offered to stay open later so we can meet until 9:00 or so. Would you enjoy this type of meeting? I'd also like to have a small favor for each guest (I've done bookmarks previously) - any ideas?

I think the coffee shop is a good idea.
As for favors, you've said you've done bookmarks -- what kind? I got this really cool one not to long ago (because I plan to borrow the idea!) It's a fairly long heavy weight string with glass beads on either end. It's very pretty, and you could even make it color specific for each person. I know you can get these beads at Wally World (not that this person did). You could even put little charms on them.
You can never have too many bookmarks -- at least, I can't!

I think the coffee house is a good idea. What about a coffee related favor, I gave some friends at work a bunch of plastic spoons that dipped in chocolate, carmel or white chocolate and such that they could use to stir their coffee. I made little bundles wrapped with a ribbon for each person ( which could double as bookmark)
cute bookmark ideas! We are doing book club @ a coffe house tomorrow night- what about a few choc covered espresso beans along w. the book mark?

If you have the time and the patience, you could get plain mugs from somewhere, and write quotes on them using paint pens (then Mod Podge it so that the paint pen doesn't wash off).
This is coming from someone who doesn't drink coffee (or plain tea, for that matter), but unless you know that everyone does actually take coffee, I wouldn't go for the chocolate espresso beans (or, at least, not only those). It might be disappointing for the person (people) who couldn't partake...
As I said earlier, I think the coffee shop idea is great -- because you can get so much more than coffee at a coffee shop :)

Love your suggestions! And thanks for the vote of confidence on the location. I thought it would be fun, too.

Biscotti would be another cute favor. Maybe with a single pack of coffee or with some hot chocolate? I like the idea of having it at the coffee house too!
