Need help re: grilling fish. I love grilled fish, however have never actually grilled any at home.
We do have a gas grill and received an item for our wedding that you can use to hold the fish in place while grilling - sorry can't remember the exact name of what this is called
We have alot of catfish filets in the summer, due to my dad fishing.
Please share with me how to grill fish, recipes, etc
Thanks

The only fish I've ever grilled is tuna and salmon. For the tuna I usually whip up a marinade of sesame oil, soy sauce, minced ginger, a squeeze of lime juice, crushed garlic, and cayenne, and let the tuna steaks marinate in that for awhile then grill. I usually do something similar with salmon steaks, sometimes with a bourbon and honey marinade.

Yumm..that sounds good Shannon!...We grill grouper, tilapia, catfish, etc. The seasonings really depend on what flavor mood I am in. If you use the grill basket thingy for fish, be sure to oil it really good....Always be sure your grill is hot when you put the fish on there and don't move the fish right away...it will tear.

yeah me too.....and grilled tuna is the best!:D But I do have to say...sadly I have neer had catfish:eek:
We've grilled all kinds of fish, and they all work well in a grill basket. We've tried all kinds of marinades and dry rubs, but frankly, I prefer just seasoned grilled fish with a sauce of some kind served on the side.
We use grouper a lot because it's plentiful here, but we've lived in a lot of places and basically use whatever is fresh.
Be sure you have oiled your fish and grill basket well and don't overcook. If using filets, start with skin side up. If using a whole fish, I usually put a piece of onion and a rosemary sprig inside the cavity. or any other herb I happen to have.
Though we have gas, we mostly use charcoal for fish because I like the flavor. I'm sure that is personal preference. If using charcoal, wait until the coals are completely white and there are no fire flareups. Fish only take a few minutes on each side to cook.

We grill tons of fish here, as well---all kinds! Lemon pepper seasoning is my dh's fave! Just sprinkle on fish and brush with melted butter. Yum-yum!

I've never had catfish! But there are lots of good kinds of fish to grill. I personally enjoy salmon, swordfish and tuna on the grill. Swordfish and tuna are easier to grill as you don't have to worry about flaking.
I have quite a few grilled fish recipes, so I'll just give you a link and you can check them out if you wish- my favorites listed below are the Grilled Salmon recipe and the Grilled Tuna recipe- YUM!

Girls,
I do believe I need to get one of those basket thingies that you have mentioned. I keep seeing them, and trying to grill without them is frustrating! I'm going shopping :)

Since we live in Montana and not near water, we don't get fresh fish. So, we buy it at the grocery store and about the only kind I'll eat other than shrimp is catfish. We grill it regularly the same way you've all been talking about, oiled and seasoned. Whne we do shrimp, I marinate it for a bit in olive oil and garlic and then put it in the grill basket that we use for vegs. Oooh, yum! By the way, have any of you grilled fresh green beans? OMG, they are wonderful!

I don't like the real strong tasting fishes like Salmon, but I do like Talipia and Cod. Love shrimp too on the grill.
I put aluminum foil on my grill, put olive oil on the fish and season it.
I've used Old Bay, Greek Seasonings and various other seasonins.
I only broil or grill fish - one of my favorite recipes is Broiled Tilapia Parmesan from allrecipes.com
