Some of you may remember me telling you about some biz ideas (and asking your some questions) about a year ago. My mama and I started a business together, and one of the products that we came up with is a game called High Cotton. In fact, that is the main reason I have been MIA lately....have been so busy with that and photography.

We exhibited at the Atlanta Gift Mart in July. You can imagine how excited I was when one of the editors from Southern Living stopped by our booth and chatted with us. :)

Well guess what? Our game is in the December issue! We are so excited we can hardly stand it. It's included in the gift guide on page 21. Here is the online mention:

http://www.southernliving.com/home-g...054/page9.html

:)

Thank you Southern Living!

In this neck of the woods we have several supermarkets where if you spend a certain amount of $ within a certain time period, you get yourself a free turkey, up to 22 lbs. I thought maybe someone here might have tried this idea. I think it would be be pretty neat, especially for kids. Anyone have any idea if you would just use regular dressing, make it into balls? How long would you have to cook them? Hope someone has a suggestion...I'll check back at CL later and see if there has been a response over there. I think this is such a clever idea...why haven't I thought of this??

We traveled about 3 hours over the holidays from Charleston to my grandparents' house which was below Savannah. Mama would always get out the brush and freshen her lipstick when we took that final turn to Granny's house. She taught me to make the family times special and dress for the occasion. I have nothing against nice jeans and a pressed shirt! But I think it sets the tone for the whole day when you get ready in the morning. (Plus, there are always pictures!)

What do you think?

I love giving gifts. I enjoy shopping for "just the right thing" for the recipient. That is not to say that I buy very extravagant gifts or spend a lot of money. Half the fun of shopping for me is finding a great bargain on quality items. Marshalls and TJ Maxx are my haunts this time of year.

I am a practical gift giver. I want people to enjoy the presents I give and be able to use or wear them. I am not one to give a figurine or coffee table book - even though I love receiving either of those. And I would never give someone a Christmas ornament or decoration to be delivered Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. What would the fun be in that present? You couldn't use it again until the following year!

What about you? Do you give gifts that are fun and far from practical? Or are you like me and try to find items that you know they will use?
