How Do I Find A Designer?

I am probably not in the right "category" to ask this question, but I couldn't find anything in the My Home that really fit, so here goes---
I love all of the remodeling/add-ons/redesign projects that are shown on the pages of Southern Living, but how do you go about finding someone that is on the up and up who is your "style"? For example, we live in a small town outside of Houston Texas---how do you even go about finding a designer to give you the remodel idea for a master bath? It would have to be someone out of Houston, and when you don't live there, the yellow pages are just filled with thousands of architects and designers!!!
Does Southern Living have a list of people who have done projects that are presented in their magazines?

Welcome to the boards! I hope you'll noodle around and get interested in some of the other areas.

I'm not aware of a list of designers maintained by Southern Living, but it may be worth your time to contact the magazine and ask. What I always do is get recommendations from friends, then work through those names. The advantage is that I can see the work first-hand and get an honest opinion from a previous client. After that, it's just a matter of how I think they understand what I want and are able to carry it out.
