Default Question:

OK peeps, I need y'all advice here. My screened in porch is furnished with wicker furniture, an overlarge antique armoire housing the TV. There is also an old enamel topped distressed red kitchen table and 2 wingback chairs to the side. Lots of plants too. Anyhoooooooooooooooo, today I found and old enamel topped table with a hutch on top (very 50's) and exactly what I have been looking for for years. The problem is it is distressed GREEN. Now I don't think it will look odd once I drape it with plants and put dishes etc.etc. in the hutch but just have a niggly feeling that because it's not red it will look out of place - what dy'all think. TIA.

I like red and green together. They are both distressed which ties the look. I think it will work well.

Can you tie it all together with accent pillows or a rug?

I think "accenting" with pillows or a rug would be wonderful! What color are the cushions to the wicker? Your porch sounds lovely and inviting....what time can we be there?!?

Well thanks Cpt. I am at the point of replacing the pillows on the wickers furniture - they are a deep red/light greenish - but they're old - so am looking for something to bring it all together. I am serving Pink Champagne with bacon wrapped shrimp at 5.30pm in the Porch - y'all are welcome!! See ya then

carmen, I'm an interior designer and have a business in the DC area. I am a firm beliver in the client's ability! By that I mean most times the client has the instinct for what "feels" right and what works well for them. I love your idea of a quilt in colors to tie the pieces of furniture together. Also, if your cushions are not too worn or in dire need of replacing, I think the old, soft look of fabric would work well. Of course, I don't know what shape those cushions are in, but old fabric if sturdy would have a way of softening and blending stronger accent colors such as what might be used in accent pillows. Just my thoughts. Good luck your porch sounds lovely and inviting.

Thanks Brianna, mebbe I will keep the old cushions afterall - at least wait until everything else is in place before I make a decision - DH, in his infinite wisdom, is suggesting I pain one or two of the 'walls' either a flat light green or lemon - I don't mind the green (or the lemon for that matter), at least they're light enough to paint back to white if I don't like them. What d'ya all think??????

Carmen, sometimes it helps to appease the husbands (especially if it is something that can be easily remedied if it is too awful.) And you might be pleasantly surprised. What do you think of those colors given the area you are dealing with?
