Default Trying to find this color from Feb. 2003 issue

http://www.southernliving.com/home-g...0400000006217/

I'm desperate, please help!! I have been trying to figure out this paint color on these kitchen cabinets for a while now (like, years) and we will be getting new flooring installed in a few weeks so I really need to get my cabinets painted before then. I don't know if they actually listed the paint color in the magazine but I can't find it on the website.

As soon as I saw the picture you posted, it immediately struck me that it looked very, very close to a color I have in my house. In fact, I can see it right now from the room my computer is in. I keep glancing back & forth from your pic to my wall & thinking...pretty darn close & could be it. It's a looong shot though.

My wall is a Sherwin Williams paint color, in the Martha Stewart signature line, called "Baby Blanket" & the number is 8101. It's green & there is a yellow undertone to it.

Sherwin William's Martha paints were discontinued by SW in 2007. I selected & used this color in 2003. Ironically, 2003 is the year this article came out. I thought that was an interesting coincidence. It might not be the right color, but I thought I would throw the possibility in the mix for you. You never know. It can't hurt.

Take in mind that computer monitor colors can really vary. When I googled up the color chip, it was not the same color as I'm looking at on my wall & know it to be...so obviously my monitor is not color calibrated correctly.

I'm adding a pic of the color here, but I really don't think it will show up against the background of the page. It doesn't look like my wall, but I guess it's the monitor color problem:

If you want to take a peek at it, here's a link (which is reaaaallly long). That might be a better way to see it. Scroll down the page & look for #8101 & click on it to make it bigger:

By that same token, maybe the color I see in the kitchen pic isn't showing up correctly on my monitor either. All I can say is the color that I see in your pic is so similar to the wall I'm also looking at that I felt compelled to leave you a post, for whatever it's worth.

If you want to take a peek at it, google these words: my perfect color 8101 baby blanket martha Pull up the first entry the google search finds for you. Scroll down the page & look for #8101. Click on the swatch to blow it up. I tried to insert a link (& a pic) to make it easier for you, but it wouldn't post.

Scrap that post I just made about 8101 Baby Blanket being close to the color.

I have the Feb 2003 issue in my hand right now. I'm looking at the kitchen on page 94. It's a completely different green than my wall.

I'm looking through the book for any references to the paint color for you right now. I'll let you know shortly....

Oh, thank you! Even if they don't list the color, at least I will know and won't waste time searching for access to the magazine.

I'm sorry. There is no reference to the paint color anywhere in the mag, as far as I can tell.

The mag spread on this kitchen is from page 93-114. No reference in the spread anywhere.

In the "where to find it" reference in the back of the mag, there is no reference to the paint.

At least you won't drive yourself batty, thinking the info is in the mag! If you have any other questions on the kitchen, I'll be glad to look them up for you in the mag.

I can't believe I have that issue. How lucky that I am a packrat. I saved all the mags that I used for a reference, when I chose my own paint colors. I filed them all by room. This mag was filed with the 8101 baby blanket color I mentioned. I used it in three rooms. I collected an embarrassing number of mags/pics, trying to find just the right green. I love the color in two of the rooms. It was an entirely different color in the third room...ewww.

Which brings me to a point I want to share with you....

I noticed something when I was reading the spread on this kitchen. The color of the cabs appears dramatically different, on different pages. And they all look a little different than the pic you posted (computer monitor color difference, I suppose). Maybe it was the lighting or time of day differs in the pics & that's why they look different, but they are very different looking. On page 96, the green appears to have blue undertones. On page 97, the green has definite yellow undertones. Go figure.

Maybe you can take a tangible object, or picture, to the paint store & they can mix the color to match what you want. A good paint store guy might be able to accomplish that for you. Make sure you check it out in your own kitchen, in different lighting & during different times of day. Good luck!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look for me! I was going to buy the issue on ebay just to see if it said the paint color. You saved me money, and time! I am so bad at picking colors from paint chips. I can tell if it looks good after a big section is on my wall, but that can be so costly to get samples of every color I like. lol

I want a sunny, happy kitchen. Green or yellow preferably. Any color suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks again!

You're very welcome & I'm glad I was able to help you.

I've been there & done what you're doing & I feel for you. I hate picking out paint. I bought a small fortune in paint samples & had a zillion paint chips & inspiration pictures. It was a maddening process for me & I hated it. That's how come I remembered the name & number of that green paint that I picked it out 5-6 years ago...it drove me so crazy that it's tattooed on my brain.

Good luck with you project.

Restoration Hardware used to sell a pretty butter yellow that's very sunny & warm. It would look beautiful in a kitchen & you might like it. I think it was called "butter".

I have no help to offer, but that is a very pretty color - I've been trying to get some ideas for my kitchen and I really do like this. Good luck in your paint search!

I wish my DH would let me paint my cabinets, but they are oak and he will not allow it.

The only suggestion I would offer is to pick a color lighter than you think it is. The color reminds me of what I have on my office walls. I picked it after seeing it on someone's wall, so I asked for the name of the color. I'm glad I did or I would never have picked it out. It is a warm butter color and on the paint chip it looks like an off-white, but once it was on the walls it took on a whole new look.

As LuckyDog mentioned, the paint will look different in photos than it does in your kitchen. I would take a picture of the cabinets with you to the store and have the paint person help you pick out a color that you both think is what you are looking for. A lot of stores sell 2 oz. samples of paint colors. I would buy a few......1 of the shade you think it is, 1 a couple of shades lighter than you think it is, and one with maybe a different undertone. Good luck!

I love picking out paint - LOL!
