Yellow and Black Bedroom
DH and I are in the process of buying our first house. There have been some complications, but we should have our keys on Monday. (yay!)
So, we've been talking a lot about paint colors and I wanted to run this by y'all. The bedding for our guest room is black and white. The comforter is solid black with white edging and little eyelet designs that allow white to show through. The bed skirt is black with the same white edging and the pillow shams are the same as the comforter. So, pretty much black is the main color. The sheets that I use with it are white with small black designs, so that adds a bit more white. I also have a small bedside table that has a white tablecloth on it.
Okay, that being said, do you think it would look good to paint the bedroom a very pale, kind of creamy yellow and then add a few yellow accents? I really like yellow, but I don't want to buy new bedding yet.
Please give me your thoughts, ideas, comments. TIA!

YES!! LilyPearl has a new home!!! Congratulations!
As for that bedroom.....I'm not much help. Maybe Brianna could do more. I'll just say I love pale yellow.....really, really pale yellow...and sometimes thats hard to do. I had ours mixed and then went back and had more white added. Very pale, but at certain times of the day if the drapes are open it looks much darker.
Good luck with that new home.....enjoy!!

In my mind I was thinking black, white, and yellow wouldn't work, but I searched for images of bedrooms with those colors and they looked great.
Go for it!

color combinations
Congratulations on your new home! There are several colors that look great with that combination. If you go with the yellow family, shades closer to a Tuscan gold are better than pale yellow. Other colors that go well:
From Benjamin Moore (you can get paint chips and have it copied at Home Depot)
Wedgewood gray
Azores
Stratton Blue
Saybrook Sage
Soliel
Olive Branch
Silver Sage and Graphite at Restoration Hardward

Thank you ladies for the tips and ideas! I'm sorry I haven't been able to thank you sooner, we've been super busy moving into the house.
I_luv_to_bake: Thanks for the pics. I really like the top one...it has given me some good ideas.
SouthernDesings: Thanks for the other color ideas. I'm going to get on the Benjamin Moore website and check out the colors you suggested.
Now that we've moved into the house I realized that the trim is all a cream color, not white like I had previously thought. I'm not sure about a yellow room with cream trim...and I'm not sure about the black/white with cream...The trim has kind of thrown my planning off quite a bit. I don't know why I didn't notice it before...

I'm not sure about a yellow room with cream trim
|
My whole house is trimmed with cream, not bright white. And all my common areas are yellow. I really like the combo. My mom also has all cream trim & many yellow rooms. Hers are not the same exact paint colors as mine, but they were the inspiration for my choices.
My cream is a discontinued Martha Stewart/Sherwin Williams color called "Glass of Milk". It can still be found by googling.
I don't remember my yellow...but it's very similar to Restoration Hardware's yellow called "Butter".

Don't know if this is going to be helpful or irrelevant:
Because all my trim is cream, I was a little wary of using white with it. I was afraid it wouldn't look right. I did end up selecting white for all my sinks, tubs, toilets...and towels, rugs, etc. All my cabs are also painted to match the trim..cream. It worked out great. I have layered lots of different shades of cream & white into some rooms & that looks great.
That makes me think of something else...
I have one room that I never could select a paint for...it's still nothing but bare sheet rock & doesn't even have primer on it. It's stark white. The painters went ahead & painted the baseboards, window trim & chair rail in there though. Usually you see cream walls & white trim, but this is the opposite...white walls, cream trim. When people see the room, they assume the walls are actually painted white, because the trim is obviously painted. Anyhoo...the weird thing (besides me never having painted a room!) is...It's one of the most complimented rooms (on paint color) in the whole house! I don't know if it would work for your bedroom, but I'm just throwing it out there as an alternate idea for you to ponder, in general, in dealing with your cream trim.

My kitchen is a combo of cream and white also. The cabinets are white, the countertops are cream, the walls are parchment. It is light and airy without being stark. I am considering changing the wall color but can't figure out what to change them to. But yes, the cream and white really do work together well in there.

Lucky and Magenta: I'm so glad to hear about people using white and cream together. I'm not super decorator woman, so I've been a little uneasy about the cream trim becuase I've never had it before. The sinks, bath tubs and all the outlet covers are all white, so the cream seems to really stand out against it. My in-laws have cream trim that I really like, but I think ours is a little darker (or maybe it has more yellow in it) than theirs. The trim is growing on me, I guess I just needed to get used to it. We've picked out a light beige (Kilim Beige, Sherwin Williams) for the living room, kitchen, and hallways that I'm very pleased with. Our master bedroom will be a pale blue-gray color (I have paint splotches on the walls right now... ) that I think looks really good with the trim.
Lucky, I tried to find the glass of milk color so I could compare it to ours, but didn't have any luck. It isn't that big of a deal. I looked up the Butter yellow. That is the color I really wanted to paint the guest bedroom. I guess once we finish moving and get kind of settled I'll go get a few sample colors and see what I like.
Thanks for everyone's input!

I guess my countertops are a warmer color of cream than Kilim is - a little more to the almond side? That is a very pretty shade, though, I really like it. I am actually thinking of painting the walls in my kitchen a blue grey too - Tidewater is the color. And keeping the white cabinets and the almond countertops. I figure the blue grey would cool down the warmer tones in the cream. Either that or green... but I am in love with greens lately and if I don't watch it my whole house will be green.
The yellow bedroom idea is very pretty - I like the fact that the pictures are more sophisticated and dramatic than the yellow I envision when I normally think of a yellow bedroom.
