Default Adding a direct-vent fireplace

Hello!

My husband and I recently purchased a 1944 renovated cape cod near Baltimore, MD, and are thinking of having a direct-vent gas fireplace installed.

It is possible that we will have the new FP installed in a corner. Being a traditional Southern gal, this is a bit awkward for me aesthetically speaking. What I would like would be to have a fireplace installed on a flat wall and purchase an antique mantel, possibly one that has a mirror attached, but that may not be possible, unless the installer can run the gas line a bit, er, "creatively."

We have an ideal corner in which to place the FP, but my concern is that this will create a rather non-traditional/classic look - which I prefer not to do. However, I am wondering if anyone here has any thoughts on how to make a corner FP more traditional. Our style can be described as "Pottery Barn meets Restoration Hardware and intercepted with a dash of two-year old boy".

Am I the only person here that is considering adding a FP to my home?
